Unfortunately the media nearly everywhere is driven by what is novel and what is shocking. It is often not the story that the majority would like to tell, but the story that gets the money, that gets told. It's not really fair to conflate the byproducts of the American media with the desires of Americans themselves.

The best part is, you know that Phelps is filled with this overwhelming rage that is boiling over, much like the anguish he has forced on others. It's hard to feel sorry for an asshole getting treated like shit when that's what he deserves. Unfortunately, for his poor mother, she gave birth to him.
Oh, I definitely don't feel sorry for him - the part about this I enjoy is that he finally gets a taste of people stomping on the deaths of loved ones for himself. He definitely had it coming. It's just that doing disrespectful things to people's graves/funerals will never sound right to me. And this will only probably breed more hate within the WBC (if it's even possible for them to have more hate). But I most definitely appreciate the aspect of it.

And I've never actually done my research on his mom. Was she a fairly sane woman? In that case I'd feel bad for her.

Oh...I have no idea. She was probably as hateful as he is. I was just giving her the benefit of the doubt.

That kind of radicalism comes from somewhere and I would bet money the way he was raised had something to do with it. Though, perhaps, he is dealing with some deep-seated sexual repression. I wouldn't be surprised if an investigation into the hard drive on his personal computer revealed "secret" gay porn.

Well through the magic of Wikipedia I've found this:

Phelps was born in Meridian, Mississippi, the elder of two children to Catherine Idalette Johnston and Fred Wade Phelps. His father was a railway police man for the Columbus and Greenville Railway and his mother was a homemaker.[8]
On September 3, 1935, when Phelps was five years old, his mother died of esophageal cancer at the age of 28.[8] After the death of their mother, Phelps and his younger sister were raised by their great-aunt Irene Jordan in Meridian. Jordan later died in a car accident in 1950. On December 25, 1944, Phelps' father married Olive Briggs, and Phelps and his sister were raised by their father and stepmother in Meridian.[8] By the mid-1950s, Phelps was estranged from his parents, never spoke to them, and returned all their letters unopened.[9]
I actually had to look over this a few times to make chronological sense of these things. What I've gathered from this is that his upbringing sounds less than ideal given that he lost two mother figures within the first 20 years of his life and his father and stepmother did something to piss him off so bad he cut off all connections with them. There's also some gray areas about how he was raised - his great aunt raised him after his mother died but his father and stepmother raised him after they got married (which was almost 10 years later) - what happened in between? Dunno, he could have some inner rage about the issues he had with all his parental figures. But the deep-seated sexual repression is definitely viable.

The satanists performed a gay ritual at a Westboro gravesite, and the Pope said that gay marriage is the work of the devil.

So just who are the satanists?

A gay marriage is a satanist shit by nature so, why should we be surprised?
