"Although our primary mission is fighting wars and military training, like other federal agencies, we have a requirement to support the recovery of listed species," said Jeffrey Foster, a civilian ecologist at JBLM and wrote the grant proposal.
The pocket gopher is not listed as an endangered or threatened species. These animals are a threat to farmers, as their burrows cause water to drain away from crops that need water. Moreover, the pocket gopher can have several litters a year of up to 5 pups a litter.
This species is nowhere NEAR threatened, much less endangered.
