Also, if someone was beating the absolute shit out of me and was going to kill me, I couldn't shoot them either before "Stand Your Ground" came along.

Personally, I'm worried about the next big case that took place in our very town of Jacksonville, Florida with Jordon Davis. That case is gonna basically be Trevyon Martin round 2. I haven't really studied the facts of the case to see if the boy was innocent or not, but this case could easily get "Stand Your Ground" and "Castle Doctrine" overturned. This case scares me.
We have some of the most stout self defense laws in the country. These laws reflect the will of people of Florida.

I haven't gotten into the specifics of the Jordan Davis case, but I'm not to worried about any sort of repeal of our self defense statutes in response. We want armed self defense in Florida, and our laws reflect that.

I'll have a look at that case.

Yeah, you should have a look at it. It's gonna be the next big thing, just watch.

There are current crimes on record that I think should be taken off, like all drug crimes, but that's an entirely different matter. There is writing the law, and there is enforcing the law. If you think a law should exist, then you want it to be enforced, and if you want it to be enforced, you need police. For police to functional at all, they must have exceptional legal abilities (which does include the ability to use violence where others may not). If you intend to remove police of all special rights, then they it's pointless and pretty much the same as having no police at all.

Yes, that was an interesting case to remember. Let's also not forget about this case that happened in my own town of Jacksonville, Florida. This woman had an abusive husband that was outside trying his damndest to get in her house and try to kill her, and she fired warning shots and got thrown in jail for 20 years. This case was bullshit....

Florida can't get anything right. This woman gets 20 years, yet Casey Anthony and George Zimmerman walk. I'm so glad I don't live in that cesspool anymore.
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

Is that the one where the guy shot the teen for loud music in their truck at a gas station because he thought he saw a shotgun?

I disagree. The police are merely given the duty to protect the peace rather than granted special powers (with the exception of the power to act on a warrant). For a very long time in America both the police and citizens have had the right to make arrests and carry weapons.

The centralization of power in a special class of citizens without adequate checks (like warrants) only leads to corruption which is pretty obvious to anyone that looks at what American police are up to.

It's not the police as much as the fishing expeditions we allow them to go on.

Most cops are honorable individuals just trying to do a very difficult job in a very dangerous world. What we need to change are the nature of the laws we ask them to enforce, and the laws surrounding how they enforce them.

Which is my point. The system corrupts them.

A reasonable person who might have carried doggie treats to subdue any dog he runs into turns into a thug that shoots any dog dead at the least provocation because of a sense of entitlement and empowerment.

Considering the bias of @Magic Poriferan presuming I must be crazy or racist to reach the conclusions I have I would recommend he read the articles over at http://www.talkleft.com/ on the trial from leftwinger and defense attorney Jeralyn Merritt.
