I have not checked the replies thus far, but am I the only one who thinks of snowden as a self-destructive bored overly idealistic libertarian dumbass?

Apparently he left amazing life and a girl friend behind in Hawaii so he could play spy versus spy.

The U.S. needs security measures, who knew. Facebook and Google probably know more about the average citizen than the government does.

He went to Russia because Russia said they'd take him in. I'm not one for more delicate politics like this.. but I know that the UK is closer friends to the US than Russia is. The chances that he'd be safe in Russia are higher historically speaking.
Of course he went to Russia. Where else would Peter Pan go? Yes I bet he was born circa 1980. He's living out some dumb fantasy and I assure you Russia will be very happy to take advantage of that.

He lives in la la land. This guy is not a hero.

He is plainly idealistic and sincere - the kind of person many Americans would like to be. This makes it look as though the American Government is persecuting their best and brightest, like say, Daniel Ellsberg.

But Ed Snowden has made a fatal life decision.

Keep in mind that freedom does not mean freedom to walk around in public if people somehow think you're out of the ordinary and suspicious. Freedom means the freedom to emulate Troy Duffy movies, the freedom to drive shiny cars to the mailbox on the corner, and the freedom to sell boner pills on TV (so you can "ask your doctor if Cialis is right for you").

These freedoms are what we nuked the French for in Dubya Dubya Two. I think this had something to do with that giant lizard that attacked NYC in 2001 and some secret agent who was like Natalie Portman's bodyguard or something.
I disagree about Russia being evil and even good things have come from China.

However, I get your point, our overall sentiment is the same, and you get another smart person vote from yours truly.

Yes many American children who paid attention to the television news probably did fantasize about being a Russian spy at some point.

But then again most of them thankfully grew up and realized that if you live in a country where you can be a high school drop out and still have an awesome life in Hawaii with your interesting government job its not just glaring inconsistency but possibly insane to rat on that country to go live in the jurisdiction of Vladimir Putin.

This twerps a goddamned retard. I wish people would stop glorifying his delusional behavior.

Materialism? What is wrong with you people?

This loser has put my home country in jeopardy by leaking secrets to known enemies. He ran straight for Russia and china. This is not about freedom. If this guy isnt actually a spy, he's horribly delusional...or just utterly lacking in what we sensors like to call common sense.

Yes I care about things like safety.

He did not do anything noble.

    You shall see.

Thats a different topic and for that he deserves his punishment.

Still in the light of events, I'd wonder if I was more pissed about a traitor or about my nation, which is obviously becoming paranoid..

So aside from msg and me no one else really has a nice tight grip on facts like a man who claims to be doing this for freedom heads straight for China Russia and Cuba, not germany or England or hell why not Japan?

Are you all so busy masturbating over the childish idea of what he did that you dont see what he actually has done?

He has accomplished nothing useful that I can see.

A bold stand, Marm. But those who wish to invade must do it in the open or be automatically in the wrong.

In fact, you perhaps can thank Eddie. The activities of your government, even as they will not stop, are nonetheless now known of. They will gain a legitimacy unfounded on actual scrutiny but which nonetheless lets them be considered normal just because this tiny degree of oversight now exists. The US government will be one less step closer to the kind of corrupt use of power that defines so many states. Russia and China for examples.

Indeed, now every government that wants to take the same steps in surveillance that the US has can possibly be constrained by at least that one tiny boundary condition that wholly fucking with anyone's citizens in international secret is not the norm.

Snowden is really only a thoroughgoing criminal if the threats facing the US are existential. And they are not. You will continue to survive even with these things now in the light.
Bellison uncorked a flood of horrible profanity, which, translated, meant, "This is extremely unusual."
