Traffic. Overly litigious. The assumption that the American government can and should involve itself in every problem both foreign and domestic. The oppression olympics. Many people care more about looking like they care and empathizing, than they do about actually fixing problems.
Your representative owes you, not his industry only, but his judgment; and he betrays, instead of serving you, if he sacrifices it to your opinion.
- Edmund Burke
We have built and operated large blue water submarines suitable for our defence needs. But we are on the verge of no longer building our own submarines and buying inferior submarines off the shelf from Japan or Germany.
This shows a lack of self confidence which also shows itself in other areas.
We also seem to lack confidence to defend our liberal democracy from those who want to destroy it.
We seem to lack cultural confidence. In fact our very sense of humour is deprecatory. In other words we routinely undermine our sense of self confidence.
There are historical reasons for this. But it is not serving us well today.
