A pox on your house, you get treated the way you treat others.

Your attitude is about as diplomatic as pol pot. So while I can deal with those willing to accord respect all around, I'll shit on folks like you all day long.

I have plenty of people on the left I love to discuss policy, politics with IRL (and people here), but such open contempt for Republicans poisons the well like what happened with the ACA.

I'm explaining why things have gone the way they do. There are a good number of folks who are willing to listen to our side even though they may not agree. Others personal contempt for me and any like me prevents me from being diplomatic.

I'm to the left of my party on abortion, immigration, the fact that we need a safety net, tax deductions and rates, foreign policy, drug policy, corporate welfare, environmental issues.
I'm not sure if you're referring to me or yourself in the singular or in association with a group (in can be hard to tell with you). My response would be different depending on which you're doing.

This part won't change. I don't believe there is a true or fixed political center, and I don't praise centrism as a virtue. So you're left of the Republican party? Big deal. The Republican party is insanely right-wing now. The whole country has moved rapidly to the right for the past 30 + years, being lead by the Republican party which itself has been moving right even more rapidly than the rest of the country. This is exemplified by the account that some time in the early-mid 90s, Barry Goldwater allegedly said to Bob Dole "We are now the liberal wing of the Republican party. Can you believe that?" It really is hard to believe. And this is of course why Obama is a socialist tyrant for implementing a heath-care system the Republican party came up with. He was too late, the GOP had already moved far right of that.

So when it comes to the supposed extremity, stubborness, and incivility of Washington today, I do put more of the blame on Republicans because they're the ons that have been dragging the country into crazy, radical, la-la land for decades.

But whatever the reason is that the tone has become so uncivil, whoever started it, does not change the fact that I do not really expect civility to be met with civility at this point. We've crossed that horizon.

The center is all that has ever mattered.

Of course its not fixed, but it moves very slowly.

You clearly are the wrong tree to bark up when it comes to bipartisanship and compromise the brick and mortar of our political system.
Your representative owes you, not his industry only, but his judgment; and he betrays, instead of serving you, if he sacrifices it to your opinion.
