Nationalism and patriotism are products of the Romantic era, anyway.
[Trump's] rhetoric is not an abuse of power. In the same way that it's also not against the law to do a backflip off of the roof of your house onto your concrete driveway. It's just mind-numbingly stupid and, to say the least, counterproductive. - Bush did 9-11

Mmm well lemme tell you a story about the mid to late 90s. I was rockin middle school and I didn't give a shit. Dunno about ya'll old people but some of us are still seeing things fresh. Maybe having had all this time to observe and reflect upon it, you have great insight into this matter.

Or maybe age really does just jade you. Huh.

I was pretty young, too, but I vaguely remember the zeitgeist, and it was much more optimistic. I didn't really get what a Republican or a Democrat was, but I picked up on this idealistic sense of being on the threshold of some sort of utopia. That might have just been me being a kid, though.

Well I was joking and despite my slightly miserable response in the best age thread, I actually would like to be one of those elderly people I talked to a lot as a child who still possessed a sense of growth and wonder at the world, even to the day they died.

Something inside told me; these people have something I could learn from and so I engaged them. Of course there are many variables in between and I also met those people who never seemed to have grown or changed their perspectives or premises on which they judged the world from since they were probably around 10.

That's something I would dislike to become.
'One of (Lucas) Cranach's masterpieces, discussed by (Joseph) Koerner, is in it's self-referentiality the perfect expression of left-hemisphere emptiness and a precursor of post-modernism. There is no longer anything to point to beyond, nothing Other, so it points pointlessly to itself.' - Iain McGilChrist

Suppose a tree fell down, Pooh, when we were underneath it?"
"Suppose it didn't," said Pooh, after careful thought.
    Piglet was comforted by this.

    Ha! Not a bad point.

I think that peak oil and other energy factors will prove that all globalisation has been a false dawn.
