    Default Ex Girlfriend Gun Target

So what do you guys think of this?

NRA Vendor Sells Ex-Girlfriend Target That Bleeds When You Shoot It
    http://www.policymic.com/articles/40...n-you-shoot-it

I think most of these mannequins are kind of messed up to begin with because selling them promotes violence rather than simply defense, but I think it's more messed up that the only female one is an ex girlfriend. I agree with the author that this reenforces violence against women.

I don't however quite agree that owning a gun increases your chances of death; I think it's a lot more complicated than that and due to other factors.

And for the record I'm not against gun ownership.

Better than the cop that was caught using Trayvon Martin targets - hehe.

It's funny watching people freak out over things like this, though.

Also why is she nearly naked? That is unnecessary. The only acceptable reason to shoot someone would be in defense of yourself or someone else, and a woman would not be trying to kill you half naked more often than not. Certainly not more often than a man would. I suppose they show shirtless men so it's easier to see what part of the body you are shooting, but I don't think this is all that is going on in this case.

I don't know about that. And what do you see as undeserved freaking out? I agree people seem to like any excuse to get upset, but it doesn't follow that getting upset is always undeserved.

I never said it was undeserved. I was getting at that it doesn't bother me in the least, nor would it if it was an "ex-boyfriend" target. What warrants freaking out is utterly subjective - I won't try to tell anyone what to freak out over.

I think a lot of people see guns as recreation as much as actual defensive tools, so distinguishing between pleasure/sport shooting and *training* is important, IMO, though there is overlap.

That said, that doesn't really excuse the whole "shoot your ex girlfriend" issue. Personally, I wouldn't ever get something like that (I did eye the zombie targets at the range, and yes they have female ones, but those are really corny). I see this as really low brow, but I don't see it as actual encouragement to shoot your ex. At least that's how *I* would see it, then again I don't want to shoot my ex-gf in any case... Given the context of domestic violence it's pretty disgusting.

I've shot at targets of random people from the newspaper, I'm sure I've shot a woman (or politician) at some point, but I had no political bent with either selection. That was for the sake of shooting a human shaped target, and though small, it simulates (to some degree, ignoring bullet arc/wind etc) shooting a target at range.
Don't know how much it'll bend til it breaks.

To me, it isn't a huge deal. It is just another echo of a silent epidemic that exists already in society.

Seems wrong in a lot of ways, but as long as it is done in secrecy, it could be a decent coping strategy for frustration, giving the violent guy a chance to release his hatred with little damage.
