I don't believe disadvantaged groups should get special treatment as an apology. I don't feel like I have the ability to apologize for the actions of my ancestors. I can't do that. They are dead, and I cannot speak for them.
Just recognition of the past.
It should also be clear that if someone attacked your ancestors, that's not you. You can't lug around that pain.
That said, if someone screwed over your ancestors and put them into one isolated area with little opportunity for advancement, you can imagine that would effect what happens over time, yeah?
