"This move is not anti-sex. It is anti-violence because young children are seeing porn and acting it out," Gunnarsdottir said. "That is where we draw the line. This material is blurring the boundaries for young people about what is right and wrong."
I wanted to know what is meant by that.

    (Perhaps not)

That's one of the few scenarios that would make the measure reasonable.

I think that preventing children from understanding or knowing about anything sexual does more harm than good. We all come from sex. Virtually all of us have sex. And yet we hide sex? I understand keeping something intimate private, but it's just sex.

However, many people don't realize that commercial pornography is quite fake. They are actors. What is depicted is generally unrealistic. The comment about violence makes me wonder if they are talking about the seemingly hateful, non-consent porn that sort of looks like rape.
Don't know how much it'll bend til it breaks.

What a ridiculous waste of time and money.

"This move is not anti-sex. It is anti-violence because young children are seeing porn and acting it out," Gunnarsdottir said. "That is where we draw the line. This material is blurring the boundaries for young people about what is right and wrong."
How are they acting it out?
    What is violent about it?

Sidestepping cries of censorship, Ogmundur, who is affiliated with the country's Left-Green Movement, a left-wing political party, pointed at the larger social problems he claims porn causes, stating that "violent pornography... has a very harmful effect on young people and can have a clear link to incidences of violent crime."
So are they talking about BDSM specifically?

It is an infuriatingly patronizing act loaded with ulterior motives. It's not about the children - that's just the lube they are using to make it hurt less and prevent any political opposition - it's about what they think porn does to women. If I was a woman in the porn industry, I would find this kind of argumentation incredibly condescending. I have never heard of a woman who was forced by other people into doing legitimate porn, and all of them seem to be capable of being professional about their line of work. But I suspect these Icelandic fanatics wouldn't care, because they don't really see those women as conscious individuals, but rather as slaves of the ancient evil The Patriarchy. The fact that they make it about women is clear sign of their ulterior motives, for what about the men in porn? If porn is traumatizing to the participants, then the men must be equally affected by it.

I started to read the article and got as far as "... calling explicit online images a threat to children."

Isn't it always about the children? What happened to parents doing their "job" and watching over what their kids do and get into. I'm tired of people pushing their social/political agenda on the backs of parasites... er I mean "kids".

South Korea has an internet porn ban as well (Second Best, a venter, used to live there and told me about it) and the Koreans frequently get around that, easily, I might add, by using proxy servers.

P.S. I am a parent of two girls. Mom and I do our "job" and make sure we know what our kids are doing.

Edit: Upon further reading of this thread I came across: "This material is blurring the boundaries for young people about what is right and wrong." PAleeaaase. Parents and family teach you values and help you figure out what is right and wrong, if they are doing their job.
"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents... Some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new Dark Age. “There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”
