    Good bloody question!

And how ironic that the icons of children, Micky Mouse, Daffy Duck and Donald Duck, won't look after the children.

Yes, it is ironic. The icons never meet the children of the staff, although they live a few steps away.
    What a company.

I have the same problem with dogs

I think my next pet will be a cat or a goldfish perhaps

A cat is better. I had a cat in Israel. Goldfish need a lot more room than those round tiny glass things can give them.

    What is a country?

Finland was Sweden for 700 years, from the initiation of Sweden.
1809. Napoleon made Finland a Grand Duchy of Russia.
    Was the Duchy a country?
The Swedes, who were now called Finns, thought it was.
Russians on the other hand did not think so.
Napoleon was poisoned but his policy, unperturbed, lived on.
New countries, called Germany and Italy, saw daylight.

Look back. Who needed Finland and Germany and Italy?
Not the Finns or the Germans or the Italians. They did not exist.

the deal is that before sweden conquered finland, it was an independent country with its own language people etc. (history of finland goes to back to neanderthals, yes that is before the ice age and current people came here after the ice age, thats 9000bc). so even tho the country was under the order of some foreigners, the people were still finnish with our own language, culture and heritage. we even had our own currency when under russian and were an independent state. btw it was grand dutchy of finland, not russia :P . also napoleon didnt do anything but to give consent to russia to go in war against sweden and try to take finland away from them.

Another good question! You know, Wildcat, I think you have a whole bag full of good questions and you only bring them out one at a time to tempt us.

So giving into temptation: how is Australia a country?

Australia is not a country by ethnicity, it is not a country by religion, it is not a country held by force, it is not even a country of ideology, or even a country defined by its borders.

Rather Australia is a polity. Australia is a country held together by politics, namely, liberal democracy, accepted by all Australians except a tiny number of Islamists who intend to replace our liberal democracy with Sharia Law.

So the country of Australia is a polity. And we have found, if we get the politics right, most other things follow along.

    Thank you, Victor.
A wonderful estimation. I admire the determination of your people.
    Australia is indeed a polity.

A polity is by itself a leading principle.
And, if one holds on by the principle, it is possible to have a country.
