Well, I don't want to be chicken little. There are a lot of interesting projects going on to burst cells with nanoparticles or prevent some of their cellular processes by creating structures which adhere to various surfaces they have which are needed in their reproduction cycle thus stopping their spread, but I would hope people being more educated about those options would make them want to put more pressure on government and pharmaceuticals/other corporations to develop these technologies BEFORE they are needed and we have a lot of needless death. But, I don't expect that to happen because there is not enough "profit" in it for an individual company. This is why imo government should award monies to groups that create cures for these diseases as rewards for individualized projects (sort of like how we do with military contracting) that would then be "owned" by the public domain and corporations could pay the government for their use (so it is sustainably self-funded).
