    Default Flu "Epidemic"

Just a fair warning to the people living in the Northern Hemisphere, there is a huge flu epidemic going on. It might even be one of the worst ones in recent decades (not as bad as H1N1.)

It has gotten really bad in the Eastern U.S. and it has just started getting worse in California.

Be serious about washing your hands with soap and water to not get ill. Bring soap, or even hand sanitizers.

If you are able to, get a flu shot.

    Better be safe than sorry.

Ethyl alcohol in hand santizers kills more pathogens than soap, so I suggest that. Also makes touching filthy faucets etc avoidable. Unless your hands are visibly soiled, use hand sanitizer instead.
& avoid touching your nose/mouth/eyes when you're out, in general. Easiest way to catch crap. Carry drinks in a handbag or something, don't set them down anywhere, keep closed when not consuming. Wear a surgical mask if you're immunocompromized. And ffs, get the flu shot if you didn't, already.

Which one? Seems H3N2 would be the biggest since it hasn't been too active for 9 years.

Grrreat... now I'm overly conscious of what my body is doing and worrying about it. Bleh, I hate that!

Why'd they have to talk about getting sick?? Now every time I sneeze or my stomach feels a little weird I'll be thinking "O NOES I HAS TEH DEDLY FLUS"

Lol, don't worry too much. General rules:

If you felt like you've been hit by a car without notice, you probably have the flu.

If you felt like you've been hit by someone riding a bike, it is probably the cold.

The flu generally hits hard, but ends sooner (not always.)

The cold usually starts like a sneeze, and gradually gets worse.

There is currently 2 flu's and a norovirus (stomach flu) going on. H3N2 is the more worrisome one out of the three because it has been quiet for 9 years.

Had a stomach flu two years ago, was not fun.

Getting sick doesn't bother me much so it's hard to tell. My brain seems to have only two modes: it's either nothing, or it's cancer.

Edit: to make some kind of sense, if I don't know it is coming, I'm fine. I'll happily puke my guts out and feel like I've been hit by a truck. I just don't want to think about it in advance. Brrrrrr.

Stupid fearmongering imo thats used to either make big news or to control people(yes it has been scientifically proven that this sort of stuff effects peoples actions unconsciously in quite profound way, for example people vote much more on conservatives and have overall more conservative views on everything, like towards gays)

I noticed the norovirus, or "stomach flu," is mentioned in several of these articles. I'd just like to point out to anyone already not aware that this is NOT an actual flu (not influenza) and therefore is NOT in your vaccines. If someone is vomiting around you, I recommend getting the hell out of there if you don't want this one. The norovirus is highly contagious and can be spread by coughing, sneezing, if someone vomits near you, if you are by a toilet that flushes with vomit/diarrhea in it, or even if someone just breathes near you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerosolization

Also, according to my physiology professor, vaccines take at least several weeks to a month to actually take effect. I don't know how correct this is, but it's something to keep in mind.

I'm a bit paranoid because my brother who drives me to school is sick. Luckily it's not with the norovirus.
