    I wouldn't say that.

And as a minor vent completely unrelated to your comment Oberon, it's just tacked on to this post because it's open.

I really HATE the way it's fucking impossible to have a civilized discussion about any hot button topic on this forum when Kiddo gets involved. You're always the loudest most opinionated ass who thinks he's knows everything that I've encountered (an exagerration but I feel like that's necessary). Why don't you shut up and lay back for a while and try to listen and understand what people say instead of ramming your opinion down someone's throat? I usually avoid people like you IRL, but it seems like I can't open up any political thread without you dominating it. It's like you get wild-eyed and foamy anytime a hot button and you feel like it's your duty to throw out your toxins.

I know you'll get all teary-eyed and offended because an admin called you an ass, but I'm truly being gentle.

Eh, everyone's racist to varying degrees. It's simply a method of quickly sorting information. It's impossible to get to know every individual on a personal level, so people resort to stereotyping. Race is one of those qualifiers, as well as sex, dress, posture, and so on. The priorities placed on each category may vary for each individual. I would assume most people have a problem with race being the most important qualifier, yes? So those are the ones labeled as 'racists'?

Maybe I'll start a campaign against posturists.

Eh. It doesn't mean they're wrong either. Words are defined by convention. Not even the dictionary has authority.

Public shaming is part of my arsenal. But I agree.

Now that's a highly interesting question, because there's a segment of the population for whom race is the most salient point of their self-perception. This is the culturalization of race as identity.

Intuitively I want to say that genuine racists are a subset of this segment, but I cannot cite any kind of data to support that idea. I will observe that, as a white guy, I tend to look askance at white guys who are all into their "white heritage." It's bad form.

You do a far better job of embarassing yourself from what I have seen.

In fact, I believe that the first direct personal attack that was issued in this thread was by this person...

For populations where race is their most salient characteristic, I find that they were given their racial identity and took it upon themselves. It began because they were set apart purely based on their race.

And I don't really have a problem with people being proud of their cultural heritage. I'm not one of those melting pot people, but a salad bowl. I don't think we need to be color blind, I just think we should be color neutral. Pretending that race doesn't exist and that we're all the same is ignoring the obvious to me. Which is partially why I don't really have a problem with what the woman's blog that was linked in an earlier post says. I think she was getting more at a symbolic victory than anything else. Symbolic victories are very important, look at underrated sports teams that make it to the finals even though they don't win. It bolsters self-esteem and allows people to dream bigger dreams. I think that's the most important part for minorities to be shown that they can do something, you know those ground-breaking people that pave the way for others.

The same crap they say about Obama is what they said about Shirley Chisholm in the 1970s when she ran for president. When is anything ever a good time? People will be waiting forever for that right time. If it's not even in a young black or brown person's mentality to even think they could be president they certainly won't try. Which is why I can understand Spikol's logic.

I'll put money on the fact that you'll stop your bullshit in this thread though.
