No. The last two times I wanted to teach intps wisdom nearly got me kicked from this site.

I dont know if those sorts of changes are likely to usher in socialism but I know the state is not able to introduce or further the goals of socialism, that doesnt mean I dont believe in a welfare state or mixed economy, it just means that capitalist or socialist I think the role of the state is the same.

It should be limited, it society in any state is a blessing but the state is only a necessary evil because it is about regulating vice, or something like that, Thomas Paine put it well, although I've always liked conservatism's rejection of both statism and individualism, it exercises an appeal to me personally I think that all these things, conservatism, socialism, liberalism, capitalism are remote from the real world which corresponds more closely to underlying personality typology, principally the social character theories of Erich Fromm.

Scamper off like a good little rabbit and collect all the guns. You'll save the world. All by yourself.

I disagree that the state is there to regulate vice. Vice is way too open ended and arbitrary for someone with that much power to be regulating.

The state is there to assist the people with matters that are too large to be handled locally, but must be advised by the people in doing so. We have representatives, not monarchs.

So the police are not part of the state?

Or you don't think they are necessarry?

They are part of the state but they enforce the law. That is not regulating vices. That's enforcing the law.

The police are also representatives or are appointed by representatives. If they don't do their job right they lose their job.

This time it is I who have no idea what you're talking about....I don't know what previous experiences you are referring to (was I one of them?), but this exchange was apparently more personal for you than I either realized, or intended, it to be. I was trying to challenge your position, not attack you personally, and I apologize if anything I said led to you to believe otherwise.

What is enforcing the law if not regulating vice?

Maybe we just had a semantic misunderstanding.

    BMW's are fine.
How about just banning guns and knives primarily designed to kill people? Hand guns, assault rifles, switch blades and flick knives - ordinary people have no need for such weapons.
