    Default Transgender Locker Room Issue

Saw this today, was curious how others felt about it. I have an opinion but I'll log in later.

Transgender Student in Women's Locker Room Raises Uproar

The decision to allow a transgender 45-year-old college student who identifies as a woman but has male genitalia to use the women's locker room has raised a fracas among parents and faith-based organizations, who say children as young as 6 years old use the locker room.

..."The college has to follow state law," Evergreen spokesman Jason Wettstein told ABC News affiliate KOMO. "The college cannot discriminate based on the basis of gender identity. Gender identity is one of the protected things in discrimination law in this state."

But according to parents, the fact that the student has exposed her male genitalia, in one instance in the sauna, is cause for concern.

"[A mother] reported her daughter was upset because she observed a person at the women's locker room naked and displaying male genitalia," said a police report filed in September by a mother on behalf of her 17-year-old daughter..."The fact that this individual was sitting in plain view of young girls changing into their swimsuits puts you and Evergreen on notice of possible future harm," David Hacker, senior legal counsel, wrote.

The college has installed privacy curtains, and said it would not change its policy for now.

Some fat males have bigger knockers than some females. Females, however, don't have penises.

Oh dear. I'm kind of laid back about stuff, but dude junk hanging out in that setting would be over the line for me as a consumer. I don't know that I'd complain or expect any action on my behalf, but it would impact my use of the facility.
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

While I am a bit amused that a 17 year old quasi-adult was so easily shocked, I am also surprised that a transwoman would publically expose her male genitalia, be it in front of adults or minors while living as a woman. That pretty much goes against what I had thought I knew about transpeople's relationship with their own physicality. Just a sidenote.

Other than that, the law is the law. So I don't think there is much to do or discuss. They can always install a few individual booths though like they have them at most public swimming pools over here.

would`nt be more difficult for the transgender person? everyone would be staring, their mouths watering, licking their chops for just a droplet of semen to pearl up at the tip of the penis and fall into their mouths.

most likely she is not going to stare of the other ladies, i know that to be true.

I think different laws should apply to pre-op and post-op transexuals in such situations....and I sympathize with the hassle and discomfort restrictive access causes pre-ops during what must already be a very difficult time for them, but I think protecting little girls (and non-consenting grown women) from public exposure to masculine genitalia (or possibly worse) takes precedence.

How easy would it be for someone to pretend to be transgendered just to get off exposing themselves like this?
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

    This.

In my mind it is a virtual non-issue as far as what is to be done. Don't let the transgendered person go around and expose herself. How is it that much of a controversy? I don't care if she identifies as female, she has a penis. You can't just go flashing those in the women's locker rooms.

I concur. How does the law discern who is identified as a female? If a transgendered woman has male genitalia, small or no breasts and short hair, but claims to be a female, where is the line drawn?
