Well, tbh, based on your recent posts, I figure you're gunna completely disagree with this, but I think there should be voter ID laws.
Last time I walked in to vote and flashed my ID, and they told me I didn't need to, I was like

I also hadn't realized that early voting was so widespread and lasted for so long.

I don't think that should be the case; opens the election up for too much fraud.

Polls open for weeks and no ID required... you gotta be fucking kidding me.

That's gotta be the worst-designed system for preventing voter fraud.

I might spend that evening at McDonald's since we don't have cable. I think they play FOX in the morning when all the old guys are having their coffee and CNN the rest of the time.

That's strange. I am pretty sure I have to show my driver's license... but I don't remember. All I know is that my name is on some list and then it gets crossed out and I get handed a giant piece of paper.

Hmm, I should pay attention to this. :P I shall report back on Tuesday!

    Yep.
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

I'm not against voter ID laws. I don't buy the Democrat's argument that they would necessarily keep people from voting. As long as people know several months in advance and some reasonable exceptions are made for the people out there who don't have IDs (and you must admit those people do exist), I would support voter ID laws. That said, I can see how they could be used by Republicans to discourage or intimidate voters, in practice.

I am less concerned with fraud than I am disenfranchisement. The burden of proof should be on the state to prove that someone cannot vote, not the other way around. Otherwise voting becomes a privilege, not a right.
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

I think someone ought to have to prove that they're a person who has the right to vote.

    Not anything onerous, or heinous.

    Just an ID.

Wow, I'd heard fox news was pro-republican but I had no idea it was that blatant. North Korean journalistic values there.

ETA: and I'm not saying that because I support Obama. I'd honestly be this horrified if it were the Democrats they were supporting in such a manner.
