No, and no, paying that much to have sex with someone is not worth it.

Also, how do we know they are virgins?

Also, why would I spend upwards of 700k just to have sex?
The question is about receiving the sum, not paying.

If that is the case, unless I've been given $780k just to have sex, maybe. That is a lump sum that can help me live less stressful for quite some time.

I mean, it is not like the other person knows whether I am a virgin or not.

Wrong again, on all counts. Since I don't claim to make no mistakes, no one would have reason to say this about my posts. Of course, members don't always act reasonably.

I am (re)entering the discussion to express disappointment about its deteriorating quality. When a disagreement focuses on facts and reasoning, I can learn from it, whatever side I eventually agree with. When it degenerates to insults and empty assertions, it becomes a waste of words. Perhaps I should have been more blatant in my observation.

Ok...well...taking the discussion back to the non-intact hymen stage which is where I last read it...and ignoring the subsequent apparent change in tone towards combativity which appears to have been effected during my abscence...

In the 70's they used to do virginity tests on immigrant women entering the UK.

Now there's a hymen worth auctioning.
And so long as you haven’t experienced this: to die and so to grow,
you are only a troubled guest on the dark earth

Your blame is misplaced. Even socialist societies have prostitution. There's really nothing that can be done to stop it because there will always be a demand.
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

You are a man of good taste.

I don't remember when she was a virgin though, could you tell me? Did you by any chance happen to be present at the loss of said innocence? (a long shot I admit)

I both despise capitalism and recognise that the "world's oldest profession" predates capitalism.
Then again, so did making pins...
But unless and until virgins start being traded on Wall St, I'm not going to blame capitalism for this one.
Not least because the auction was (ostensibly) held for charitable purposes.

I certainly hope it was a joke, (albeit, a less than amusing one) but you know what they say: "many a true word is spoken in jest". Especially when it comes to the kind of jesting "manly" men do in bars...

I think its a mistake to see charitability or altruism as the opposite of capitalism, its not, in fact capitalism needs a lot of it in order to exist at all.

Reminds me of the Spanish phrase no faltan putas faltan capitalistas.

In English a literal translation is: there is no lack of whores just lack of capitalists.

In other words...everyone is a prostitute it just depends on the price.
