He was pretty icon in the eighties, very icon in the UK, superstar status, on radio, TV, Top of The Pops which was the MTV of its day, then a whole series of TV shows and self-promotional efforts.

It actually surprises me that he is little known in the UK and US, ie the english speaking world, I wonder if it is a generational thing, like recognising Timmy Mallet and Dungeonmaster of Knightmare, or an example of hypermedia effecting memory? I think that could alone influence incidents of abuse, despite crimes like what Polanski or Saville were responsible for its hardly possibly that theirs will be a names which will "live in infamy", not saying it will make it easier for them to reoffend or avoid detection just that it wont stick in peoples minds so much.

I have noticed that happening about more than crimes like this too, its got some major implications when you think about it. Political ones to begin with at least.

Because charges are brought does not imply we assume someone is guilty, that is the opposite of a liberal democracy.

    3. It didn't come to light when he was alive because he payed people off, threatened or blackmailed them. (And also because of people like you who prefer to prejudge the victims rather than the perpetrators of sexual assault.)
These are your allegations. They may be true, or may not be. They need ot be proven ina court of law or technically you are libelling him.

If he is proved guilty beyond reasonable doubt of rape, not just underage sex, then he deserves to have his kinghthood stripped posthumously, and it will be a travesty that he was not convicted while alive, because a rapist cannot be defended in any circumstances.

    4. You seem to be suggesting that "sex offender" is a less grave offense than being sexually attracted to children. A sex "offender" is someone guilty of a sex crime. A pedophile may not be (unless we're counting thought crimes).
Well it depends. I would say someone who had sex with a consenting, sexually developed 14 y/o is less bad than someone who abused a pre-pubescent child or someone who downloads child porn. Who are we to say a sexually developed girl or boy who is not 16, cannot have sex?

Like I said, in Britain, the age of consent is 16. In other countries it is 18. When I was 19, my GF was 17. In Britain, I'm fine, but in another country, I'd be a sex offender? And you believe morality depends on jurisdiction?

    5. Ignorance + thoughtlessness = your post
Seems like you watched one documentary and took it at face value.

    Wrong. It's Greek actually.

Wrong again. Not only are they not my allegations, but technically, you can't libel the dead.

Seems like you watched one documentary
That's one more than you have. Seems like you need to take your head out of your ass and do some research before you make yourself look like a complete ignoramus. (Although, honestly, it's probably too late for that.)

I know the origins of the word, but the correct English spelling is paedophile, hence my point.

    Wrong again.

Saville was a great entertainer loved by the British population, certain resentful groups have an interest in tearing down his reputation because they see him as a "sexist dinosaur" (and probably "racist" too), in order to further their cultural-marxist agenda. Read Gramsci if you don't believe me.

Man, I thought you were credible like a second ago, although I was totally mistaken.

Horrible and all as it is, and I've no doubt there are people who will seek to exploit this for a range of reasons, Saville was a predatory sex offender, that's pretty uncontestable at this point.

He was deeply flawed, but at this stage it's impossible to seperate the fact from the fiction. Call me non-credible but I prefer to know the full facts before I judge someone.

If he once erred and had sex with an underage girl who consented and was sexually mature, and even if you hate him for that, it's still very different to him being a rapist or paedophile, wouldn't you agree? We still don't know and only a court can judge that, not the media. Don't you agree?
