Does anyone consider this to be the case? Reading historical sources, and a lot of books, I have found that historically there have been lots of Jewish sources represented in the progressive, optimistic wings of philosohpy, politics, economics etc. although more lately there are as many or more represented in the conservative/reactionary, pessimistic wings of philosophy, politics, economics. Also more than ever before the fate of Israel the state is considered synonymous with the fate of Israel the people/Jewry in general.

Or is it a much more generalised trend? And everyone is less optimistic than they once were?
