    Default Mitt Romney: Warlord

I'm seeing something about Mitt Romney being funded by "warlords," and that his goal in the upcoming election is to become the world's most powerful warlord.

Does anybody here know the basis of these contentions?

Could just be the military industrial complex's candidate, that's believeable since they are the big alternative to health spending, history of post war Britain and the emergence of the NHS would tell you that.

Maybe. It just sounds like pre-election rhetoric. It's not as if Romney's campaign is being funded by Kony. Bush Jr. and Sr. were both "warlords" in this same sense, and Obama is a "warlord" for not pulling troops out of Afghanistan.

The basis of these accusations is planted firmly in an inability to take a nuanced and realistic view of those with differing political opinions.

It's just as stupid to believe Romney (or any candidate running for high office) actually wants to be a warlord as it is to believe that Obama isn't a US citizen etc...

    Not the same thing.

Either Obama is or is not a citizen. Obama has a birth certificate and their doesn't seem to be good evidence he isn't a citizen.

Labeling Mitt a warlord is just a pejorative for what ACTUALLY goes on in terms of defense contractors making donations to campaigns and PACS.

Of course it's not the same thing, but that is a useful analogy to illustrate the point below.

But framing the discussion so that this is seen as something that Romney does, without the caveat that the entire political system does this is misleading.

Defense contractors don't only exist in republican districts.

I don't think that caveat needs to be made unless it's within the context of support for Obama or from a source that overtly supports Obama. So if the daily kos went off on Romney and called him a warlord that would, indeed, be laughable given Obama's promises and record on war. However, if it were from a group such as antiwar.com I think the caveat would be less necessary. Here we just have something someone randomly heard from somewhere so it's impossible to criticize on that level.

I think its hard to find a politician which isnt connected to the military industrial complex, the US is addicted to militarism.

It's called unfounded rumor and fear mongering. It's a display of rivaling political parties playing cutthroat.

What you're saying sounds very dramatic and borderline conspiracy talk. I'd be wary to put any faith in such information.
