Why would anyone who routinely votes Republican be put off by their candidate saying something idiotic?

    What am I missing here?

If I say "Rape is a bad crime." I spoke poorly. My line of thinking is that rape is awful, but I spoke poorly and did not express my line of thinking properly.. 'bad' is an understatement of the situation.
If I say, "Legitimate rape means women abort babies on their own." I did not just speak poorly. I clearly have a line of thinking that got me to that point, whether voicing it out loud was smart or not.

The issue is independent voters. Neither party can win if they alienate the independent voters. This really hurts Akin because he is going up against an incumbent who is smart enough to not alienate those independents.
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

A personal phone call from the GOP's vice-presidential pick asking you to step out and you still believe you "can win this."... Clearly, this man is living in la la land.

An election is eminent. If he is re-elected by a majority who is aware that he is a dumbass, then they deserve him. It's undemocratic to decide otherwise. Allowing some Repub 'star chamber' to oust him fixes nothing.

Last thing I knew, he was leading.

Not sure how long that will continue, but anyway,....

He's still leading, but only by a single percentage point...he used to be up by several points.

Its still possible for him to win (mostly because of his opponent and because Missouri has been trending Republican), but he's turned the race from a probable Republican victory into a probable Democratic win.

    Yes it does.

For each idiot in congress, there is a supremely stupid bill to be tagged with that idiot.
