I may or may not vote in the by-election to elect a new Member of Parliament. My MP resigned in May. The election date is not set but it should happen by the end of the year.

I didn't bother voting in the last federal election (last year). I voted in the three prior ones (2004, 2006, 2008). My political beliefs did not align with the ideologies of any of the political parties in the last election so I chose to withold voting for any of them. If I could express my dissatisfaction with all of the candidates by marking a "none of the above" on my ballot I'd be sure to vote every election.

Voting for Romney simply because Obama fails. Time for the next guy to take a turn at fixing/fucking everything up.

    I vote in every election.

Edit: As for whether or not its true that young people generally don't vote, that's the pattern except in the rare elections where their naive idealism is in hyperdrive.

    As @lowtech redneck said...

I vote in every election, state, local, presidential.

We won't see the numbers of young democrats voting we saw in '08.

i'm going to vote although it does kinda feel like a waste since my district is one of the most liberal in the country. except i know that our mayor is really unpopular, so i'll look more into that.

No real reason for me to vote, but I will. I voted for Hillary last time, then Obama. Obama again this time. He was doing a fundraiser near my house yesterday. For a mere $38,500/person.

I hate the money in politics shit.

Does anybody know why "red" and "blue" came to be associated with the "right wing" and "left wing" parties in the United States, respectively?

Everywhere else in the world it's the opposite, e.g. in Canada the Conservative Party colour is blue and the Liberal Party colour is red.

The mindset behind this has always been interesting to me. What makes you feel this way?
For all that we have done, as a civilization, as individuals, the universe is not stable, and nor is any single thing within it. Stars consume themselves, the universe itself rushes apart, and we ourselves are composed of matter in constant flux. Colonies of cells in temporary alliance, replicating and decaying and housed within, an incandescent cloud of electrical impulses. This is reality, this is self knowledge, and the perception of it will, of course, make you dizzy.
