He also didn't hit any by-standers so he must have had practiced aim.
I found some articles on it and apparently he shot them in the butt. One of the suspects was interviewed after the hospital and said that his gun was broken and rusty, and not loaded, and that they didn't plan to actually hurt anyone. He fell down because his leg gave out due to where he was shot but it wasn't a serious wound and he is already standing on crutches apparently.

In any case, the guy looks like he knows what he is doing by his form, especially for a 71 year old man. Practice or training I suspect.

LOL yeah. I probably shouldn't find it funny, I can't help it though. Honestly I really don't like to see anyone get hurt ever and I'm kind of relieved but at the same time getting a kick out of the fact they got shot in the butt. That has to be really embarrassing :P

And it's less harmful than a shot to the knee, which is a way to shoot to incapacitate without killing, but to cause tremendous pain.

So in short, Old Man was almost being kind.

The old man showed admirable restraint when the perps were fleeing the building (read: crawling outside on the ground.) He had an opportunity to further incapacitate one of the criminals but held back when he was no longer a threat.

While of course things could have gotten out of hand, the upstanding citizen did the best he could to lawfully defuse the situation. While I am for gun certain control laws, I approve of letting citizens like this man carry concealed weapons.
