BUT, someone that knows even just an ounce of virus/trojan/malware/rootkit/etc would know to have at least a few antivirus applications running/on-hold.

If you have them... chances are, you are up-to-date and clear.

If you don't, I don't know what you are doing on the WWW and the internet at large.

A few that you may or may not want to rely on. It is better to have at least 2 or 3 of them to check up (along with AVG.)

    2: SuperAntiSpyware
    3: MalwareBytes Free-Edition

As far as US users go, it's a tiny thing.

Let's say with generous estimates that there are 200 million internet users in the US, and that 70,000 might be effected. That's 0.035% which is a tiny number relatively. Chances of it being you are tiny.

Really Marmie, I can't stress this enough lol, it really is a scare tactic.

Those who are infected either don't know enough about the internet, or that they only rely on one virus detector and that it has not updated (which most have by now.)

If a Windows user hasn't wiped their hard drive and reinstalled Windows since 2007, they deserve whatever happens to them.
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

This is nothing but flamboyant hyperbole.

Anyone who could potentially be affected by this has already updated their computer, replaced their computer, or run a virus checker. The very minor few who might still be holding onto this virus are going to know at least one who can help them with the problem.

    This is a non-issue.

    Anyone remember the Y2K scare?

“Pleasure to me is wonder—the unexplored, the unexpected, the thing that is hidden and the changeless thing that lurks behind superficial mutability. To trace the remote in the immediate; the eternal in the ephemeral; the past in the present; the infinite in the finite; these are to me the springs of delight and beauty.” ~ H.P. Lovecraft
