The line in the platform that is creating this controversy:
Knowledge-Based Education – We oppose the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) (values clarification), critical thinking skills and similar programs that are simply a relabeling of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) (mastery learning) which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority.

*Sigh* Sometimes a facepalm is a better response than any words you could come up with...

You know what, I don't even know what to say here.

And people wonder why I think humanity is doomed.
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

This was the most hilarious part.

"The position causing the most controversy, however, is the statement that they oppose the teaching of 'higher order thinking skills' -- a curriculum which strives to encourage critical thinking -- arguing that it might challenge "student's fixed beliefs" and undermine 'parental authority.'"

It blows me away that they've become so unabashedly authoritarian.

    .. I think I'm in love.

(or, rather, I was until he talked about sucking the big one. Oh, yeah, that was a joke.)

... I saw the Texas Republican party's official statement on gays "destroying the fabric of society" earlier today, but missed their stance against higher-order thinking skills. It's pretty amazing that they feel comfortable enough to just come right out and stress that up front. But I guess it's a good thing, because then people can see what they truly represent at least...

yeah. That's how much they've inbred. They don't realize how stupid they sound saying stuff like that.
