I'm really not aware of anyone who is feeling sympathetic toward this guy. In fact, after molesters serve their terms and get out, even if they've made an effort at rehabilitation, no one wants them around and they have trouble finding places to live.

“Pleasure to me is wonder—the unexplored, the unexpected, the thing that is hidden and the changeless thing that lurks behind superficial mutability. To trace the remote in the immediate; the eternal in the ephemeral; the past in the present; the infinite in the finite; these are to me the springs of delight and beauty.” ~ H.P. Lovecraft

I feel sympathy for him. To me, it is similar to a man wanting to have sex with another man in a society that despises gays. How tremendously difficult it must be to have such a deeply rooted, visceral desire which is absolutely despised by the community in which one lives. This is not to say that I don't recognize the clear difference between a gay man and a pedophile (one seeks consensual sex with a peer, the other does not), but the deep desires and societal disapproval are similar. I think we can sympathize with someone and still recognize that his conduct is unacceptable.

There's a distinct difference between desire and acting on said desire. As respectable people, we must often choose not to act on impulses. This guy manipulated kids that already came from troubled backgrounds and broken families, some of which came from homes of former abuse. He targeted and preyed on these kids. There's no justifiable sympathy for this guy. None at all. He'll get his in prison.

Also, how did you miss this story when it hit? The whole scandal has been huge news.
Its not been in European news at all, the news here has been about Syria mainly and the investigation of Rupert Murdoch's newscorporation behaving like Big Brother. Today it has been about some radical cuts the conservatives would really like to make if they were in office themselves instead of as part of a coalition with the (neo) liberals who're a little less enthusiastic about some of the sorts of cuts the conservatives would like to make.

I thought about the whole Jock thing again, there is a possibility I guess that those same individuals would be vulnerable in the sense that they could see it as their only shot at a better life, gate keeping that or promising that gives a lot of power I suppose and I've read about coaches abusing that power in the past to push doping or performance enhancing drugs on the players.

Ahh, that makes sense. I made the observation fail and the assumption that you were 'Merican.

His victims were actually children, not his college team. Although, he would use the team facilities as a home base.

So how do you guys keep from acting on your sexual desire for young boys? Swordpath, do you just bite your lip and try to think about other things? When you lie awake at night thinking about having sex with young boys, do you do mental gymnastics to attempt to quell those feelings?

Fortunately, I don't suffer from pedophilia. Are you struggling? It sounds like you might be.
