I'm not interested in owning one, but I think that one should have to be exhaustively trained and licensed in order to legally use one--much like one has to be trained and licensed to operate another deathly tool, the automobile.

    I agree with the constitution.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

I honestly just wish arms manufacturers would create military grade non-lethal weapons already! First of all, imagine how this would make wars much simpler. Drop a bomb that stuns a city for a few hours move in and take control. Secondly, you let people protect themselves with minimal damage.

I think citizens not just governments should have access to weapons like this:

For all that we have done, as a civilization, as individuals, the universe is not stable, and nor is any single thing within it. Stars consume themselves, the universe itself rushes apart, and we ourselves are composed of matter in constant flux. Colonies of cells in temporary alliance, replicating and decaying and housed within, an incandescent cloud of electrical impulses. This is reality, this is self knowledge, and the perception of it will, of course, make you dizzy.

I don't see the appeal of guns...
And I don't see the need to have them in everyday society...

Gun control is an obvious issue to take a positive stance on.

^ that there is the sort of mindset that actually puts me off owning a firearm.

Look, man kind might be in a unique position being part of nature but at once outside of it through consciousness which isnt shared by animals which only have to abide by their instincts but is it really necessary to relate to nature with some desire for domination? Its not a good way to relate to anything through a desire for domination and control which will inevitably fail.
