Anyway, I was aware of developments like this trending at least two or three years ago, although back then being alarmist about it was considered conservative, prudish, bigotted, possibly all three. Oh and a buzz kill. Although if this is mainly effecting people who're under twenty one or only twenty one now then I'm fortunate to have been in the prior generation. We were still dealing with the demise of Marxism, decline of socialism is all but a prejorative sense and general depoliticisation of society, government and the economy.
Ehh...actually I hold socialism, or the way socialism has been warped in the U.S. to strangely alleviate fathers of responsibility while depriving the entire nation of adequate education and healthcare...somewhat responsible for the "absentee father" phenomenon. For a couple of decades, men could get off scot free, knowing their lady friend could either have an abortion or get on welfare if they didn't want to raise their children. Problem is, even married fathers started doing this, abandoning their families sometimes to the welfare system (as with my mother's second husband, for example) UNTIL they started cracking down and doing DL checks and wage garnishment on fathers, and now they can even do paternity tests for DNA.

Another problem is the blindness of second wave feminism (I am a third wave feminist) saying "women can do everything." Problem being, women are now more unhappy than they were in the 1970's...because...you guessed it...women are expected to do EVERYTHING. So what if both men and women work? The woman should still raise the kids and do housework!

Not all women have a superwoman complex, and there really shouldn't be so many single mothers on welfare.

This is a complex social illness, but I think these two factors, plus the outrageous lie that boys are somehow SUPPOSED to be less responsible than girls has been perpetuated in our society.

Thus, we've got a nation full of Gen Y female college graduates and Gen Y males who live with their mom and play video games.

    Good times.

There's always something wrong with men these days. I just read an article about how men are sensitive pieces of shit and how the Y chromosome is doomed, and men's balls are shrinking and they're turning into women, etc, etc. Then it's another study about how men are insensitive antisocial assholes. BAH! Go away science, I have too many porn tabs open to listen to you.

Edit: Also on a more serious note I have a half-baked (that I will some day attempt to fully bake) theory that men are having an identity crisis. They're not allowed to be men anymore, and they were never allowed to be women, so now what are they supposed to do? Apparently wank it and play Diablo.

Ha! I recently read that mwn in modern industrial countries have more testosterone than the hunters and gatherers of Papua New Guinea (and probably all ihr ancestirs) because it's bad for your immune system. Of you constantly run the risk of getting bitten by a sable tooth tigre you can't afford very high levels of testosterone...so it is actually a consequence of cushy civilization that men could develope such high levels. It is quite possible though that they have become an obstacle once again since we now live in societies where the warrior type is almost obselete and high t poses a no longer necessary health risk.

Yeah I dunno man, so many studies about men these days. It's like we don't know what to with 'em. Interesting stuff though!

I was quite alarmed that basically my entire gender studies class (almost all women) said that once we find a way to fertilize eggs without men, they will basically holocaust us out of existence. Some were kind and said they'd keep us on as slaves.

Is that a thing most women are planning, or am I just living inside a Margaret Atwood novel?

Well women had their days of being accused of wanting penises (ofc they did, they wanted to own property have their own money and not be treated like an object) ...so now men get their share of accusations about wanting to be women.

Which honestly I think some of them do. Like I read some of this "men's rights" shit and I LMFAO...men saying things like women OWE THEIR HUSBAND THEIR PEAK ATTRACTIVENESS. ORLY? On what planet, fine sir?

Usually men who talk about men's rights come across as big spoiled mama's boys, like they seem very passive-aggressive, selfish, spoiled, and immature. They're like the educated, intellectual version of the dude who has three baby mamas and doesn't pay child support to any of them.

Essentially by "men's rights'" what they mean is "do whatever I want, and have no social responsibility."

    That's not men's rights, that's being an uber-child.

I expect more out of men, I don't settle for their baby boy syndrome shit, and applaud men who bend gender roles by WANTING to be stay-at-home dads or do housework (I lust after tidy men, though I personally probably wouldn't merge with a stay-at-home papa).

I had too much of a strong father figure to take any of this shit seriously. My grandfather wanted custody of me, and got me, away from my mother, and my father signed away his parental rights. These men who say that women take away their children and blah blah blah...I often suspect they are abusers or there's some underlying reason why the judge won't award them custody or visitation. It's not because they're men, but because they're unfit parents.

Oh what a tangled web we weave...we really need to move closer to equality.

You're living in the upper middle class.

Those of us who are working class are experiencing pretty much the opposite of that, and I can't scream it loudly enough.

I think the middle middle class may be a little more balanced.

Am not! Poor people can actually go to University without selling their kidneys in Canada yo. However, there are a lot of rich city folk that attend University, who think I'm being cute when I tell them about haying and rock-picking and shoveling shit, . Point taken.

Well I went to university on scholarships and loans at a small, affordable state liberal arts college, so I know poor people can go to college. However, I sincerely don't know too many working class women who say things like that, or who idealize a world without men to be their partners...because the lower you get on the socio-economic chain, the more you need each other for purely practical reasons, and I don't think that women in general hate sex with men...soooo...

Normally when I see guys say things like this they're from the upper middle class, and they've been raised by successful liberal parents, and are surrounded by young women who were afforded similar privileges, and happen to zone in crazily on the most hardcore feminazis and man-hating lesbians...much in a similar manner that working class white, black, and Latino women probably zone in on the men who abandon their children to welfare or all of the people they know where domestic violence was perpetuated by a boyfriend, husband, or father figure.

It's dangerous for people to think the educated middle class is representative of everyone, because it's surely not. Things like domestic violence are still a huge issue...and yes, most cases are still men though a small percentage are women. That's why I think men's rights is a bunch of bull. Because to me it just seems like an overreaction to upper middle class man hating lesbians and feminazis.

If I had been in your women's studies class I probably would have mentioned how much I enjoy the natural feeling of a penis in my vagina, and how helpful it is to have a partner who helps you get through life.

Those women may even regret what they're saying now - at 22 or 26 - in ten or fifteen years, when they're married to a man who expects them to do EVERYTHING.

Yeah I know what you're saying. I remember talking to some Men's Rights guys once, and they were basically chanting: The wimmenz won't make the sex with me! Child support...or something? I wanted them to win me over so badly so I could direct my repressed rage at someone, but they just couldn't sell it to me.

I would have also loved to hear you pipe in about sex! I mean, half of those girls probably read Fifty Shades of Gray, but as soon as they put on their srs gender studies pants it's all: death to penis! They remind me of those freshman kids who take a bunch of intro arts courses and then start passionately quoting Ayn Rand while wearing their Che Guevara t-shirt.

1: More freedom and less hassle. Besides all the scandalous presentation by the TED, that about sounds right. The very social causes the guy talks about, he forgets to name the other social causes that created this (like rising cost of rent, the hassle of being in a relationship brings, etc.)

The average age these days for people to marry is around 30 years old, quite the difference from 30 years ago.

It means guys (and gals) are putting those serious decisions for a later date. You don't want to completely hate the person you marry by the time you hit 30. I mean, think of how many divorces happened in the 1960-1980's.

2: On a teaching standard, there is significantly more women being as teachers than there are men. THAT, makes all the difference. The teaching standards may be a bit different from a male teacher to a female teacher. I've certainly notice the difference of my male professors compared to my female professors. There is research done about this, which I'll try to look for.

Generally speaking, most female professors tend to teach a certain way while most male teachers teach in a slightly different manner. THAT, is the reason why some male students may be diagnosed with ADD/ADHD even though the student may be misdiagnosed with it. Personally, the way we teach these days are all SOOOOO EXCRUCIATING BORING, but I can still live with it while others can't.

I've also noticed that, gender-based private schools (all male or all female) generally do a lot better than co-ed, which males generally get the short end of the stick. Less hassle of thinking about the opposite sex and more on your class.
