I was just trying to regular analyze it, since it doesn't really make any sense.

I can see this from two sides. Part of me thinks that, yes, if there are a growing number of men who think that porn and video games are satisfactory substitutes for real human relationships, who are incapable of conceiving of a meaningful social interaction which doesn't involve the opening/plugging of some orifice or another, we ought to be grateful that they are busy fapping away in their basements and not cluttering up the dating and/or gene pool, since they clearly lack the intellectual, emotional, sexual and social aptitudes to make them a reasonable candidate for a relationship with an actual human being. It could be argued, therefore, that video games/porn are providing a service of genuine benefit to society and to the evolution of the species, not just by weeding out the unfit to reproduce but also by providing an outlet for the sexually frustrated who might otherwise resort to force/prostitution.

But if I were a parent or an educator or a policy-maker, I think I'd be concerned about the idea that young boys brains are being "hard-wired" to respond in ways that will disadvantage them everywhere outside of WoW...

Not only that, the "addiction" is to increased novelty/stimulation. At what point does the virtual cease to provide an acceptable hit? What then?
The CNN article which covers the story highlights Anders Breivik's journey from WoW fantasy to genuine weaponry / insanity.

I watched that Ted talk a while ago, I think I was expecting more. It seemed like he was saying technology and our visual intensive celeb culture just exacerbated flaws in society and "our comtinuing failure to help boys turn into functional men". Or something.

I was only lightly into the topic, but I'll give you a serious reply on how I feel about this from my point of view.

It's not a disadvantage. Or doesn't have to be. I chose to be single, because I enjoy being alone, don't have a specific social need to be in a relationship, am glad I can get rid of sexual feelings within mere minutes so I don't have to walk around with them and run the family business, which requires me to be available 24/7 and often work at irregular times, nightshifts, etc. So I don't feel I have room or time for a relationship anyway.

While spending my free time on whatever I want to do, allowing me to wind down any stress I may have built up from work. As a result, I have been able to grow intellectually and live a live I am genuinly proud of living. I don't need to add to the genepool, but I am truely thankful I was. Life is a wonderful thing, why should I waste it on social constructs that would essentially take away my ability to do the work I do and spend my free time the way I choose to. Minor the frictions I currently experience with my brother, I generally feel I live as free as a bird.

Why should that be a bad thing? What gives parents, educators or a policy-makers the right to force me into a relationship and live a 'normal' life? Why is my way of life deemed wrong? I'm productive, much moreso than the average person. I even supply the economy with about 40 jobs, I earn my living and deal with my own problems. Is there really anything wrong about that, about me?

PS: I quite like my work, it's ever changing, allows me to travel all over europe, go new places every week. Sure it can stressful being in the position that I am, but nothing I can't handle. It's not the job I dreamt about, but it has become my dream job.
