I actually think this could be a cool element to a story with a newer super hero. One that's gaining traction and popularity and not an irrelevant one that no one cares about.

It is not anti-gay, it is using gay in the context as pejorative
For all that we have done, as a civilization, as individuals, the universe is not stable, and nor is any single thing within it. Stars consume themselves, the universe itself rushes apart, and we ourselves are composed of matter in constant flux. Colonies of cells in temporary alliance, replicating and decaying and housed within, an incandescent cloud of electrical impulses. This is reality, this is self knowledge, and the perception of it will, of course, make you dizzy.

Personally, I don't see the point in creating a huge fanfare about anyone's sexuality in comic books; if they're straight, let 'em be straight; if they're gay, let 'em be gay.

This kind of revision isn't much different to me than changing Nick Fury into a black guy.

But I don't like the double standard where people are okay with looking at het sexuality and het PDAs but as soon as there is gay sexuality or gay PDAs people say, "Oh stop rubbing your sexuality in my face." Both sexualities should be treated similarity.

    Already been done.

I think people were bitching because no mainstream character established for years on end was gay, and it was like gay people came out of nowhere suddenly into the world, where realistically there would have been others in the mainstream. So it's a retroactive correction.

Despite being support of LGBT interests, I kind of don't much care either way. It's just comic books.

Batwoman came out as a lesbian character way back in 2006, and all of no one cared.

As for continuity: DC just launched what it called "the New 52," which specially changed a ton of continuity stuff and even outright reset a lot of things to attract new fans via a simpler backstory. This change isn't any bigger than the others they've made.

I think it's probably good for encouraging younger comic fans not to think of gay people as "different" or "bad."

I don't call it shoving it down our throats, personally, but these comics are a form of art and are owned by a private company, so they can do whatever they want with them.

Wow. The Green Lantern is gay? I can't to see what Ryan Reynold's does in the next movie then. This will be entertaining.

There wouldn't be fanfare if it weren't an issue that they knew would cause fanfare (or fan flame!), which is a problem. And as long as that problem exists, I don't see any problem whatsoever with publicizing such action.

    It's a different Green lantern.

Alan Scott is the gay one (the first green lantern).
Hal Jordan is the green lantern in the movie.

Yeesh. What sort of geek are you, if you don't know this?

Anyway, it's why the hubbub is even more amusing. It would be different if it was the current incarnation of a singular top-billing superhero. Instead, it's just the original version of a hero that's already had 3-4 different people serving in the same position, and not even the one who many people know as "the green lantern," including the one from cinema.
