The next generations would likely wonder how unbearable life was without the technology.
    It's a beautiful thing.

I think I found that film too scary to be funny.

Then again that's what every pseudo-intellectual on the internet says.

    I prefer chaos, not order.

    I prefer potential, not stagnation.

    I prefer freedom, not oppression.

So no to barcodes. If it ever does occurs, then destroy the government.

I need to watch this movie, had it on my mental to-watch list but forgot.

I suppose I should mention that barcode is really a filler word. I think it'd be more likely to be a microchip or something to that effect. Yes/no? Well, I suppose there would be reasons for doing either. Maybe we'd get a choice!

There is usually always a choice. Just depends on how far outside mainstream and government propaganda you want to live.

Which I guess also depends on the route the major governments trend toward over the next few decades...?

It's a double-edged sword; it can be good for keeping people from claiming false identities or identifying known criminals, but it can also be used to keep certain classes (teh 99%; Gattaca 2.0 anyone?) of people down or keeping the masses from rising against the government if corruption occurs. There are so many effects this shit could have and I believe most of them to be negative, so I thank my stars this bitch isn't empress of the universe.

Then again, if the government wanted to barcode us who would stop them? How do we know we're not already barcoded or implanted with other similar devices???

If a system like this was ever implemented, it wouldn't be a week before it was hacked.
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

I don't want it to happen but i think it's likely, we are not so far away from it already... it's just transference from paper to electronics.
