It's the fastest way to Totalitarianism.

Lies are a necessary part of everyday social interaction.

Nothing. The only questionable scenario that comes to mind is if our president did something absolutely horrific in office, or was suspected of it. And I'm talking horrific with global implications and loss of life etc... the impeachment process had concluded and they were being forcibly evicted from office, and our course of action depended on the veracity of their testimony. I suppose then.

How does that make you feel? What do you think are the ramifications for believing that? Can there be any sort of compromise?

How would that lead to totalitarianism? Is there any cost to society with lying by politicians?
For all that we have done, as a civilization, as individuals, the universe is not stable, and nor is any single thing within it. Stars consume themselves, the universe itself rushes apart, and we ourselves are composed of matter in constant flux. Colonies of cells in temporary alliance, replicating and decaying and housed within, an incandescent cloud of electrical impulses. This is reality, this is self knowledge, and the perception of it will, of course, make you dizzy.

I dont think so, I think that honesty about political appointment and government is likely to give apathy a boost, the fact that highly charged ideologies which little real baring on reality are required to motivate political engagement as it is isnt a good thing but expose them for the snake oil they are and there'll be even less political interest than there is now.

I sort of like realpolitik, its much preferable to idealpolitik a lot of time, and I can live with complexity and imperfection/imperfectability but I doubt a lot of politicos I know could.

As per the OP, instead of a skin conductance test, we'd just strap on a high resolution EEG.
