Well that's pretty predictable. Culture war is tearing the world apart. Homosexuality doesnt deserve this much of a profile.

Heteronormative all the way. Voting for anyone who is from here on out.

You heard it here first folks, if lark was American he'd vote for mitt romney : D
For all that we have done, as a civilization, as individuals, the universe is not stable, and nor is any single thing within it. Stars consume themselves, the universe itself rushes apart, and we ourselves are composed of matter in constant flux. Colonies of cells in temporary alliance, replicating and decaying and housed within, an incandescent cloud of electrical impulses. This is reality, this is self knowledge, and the perception of it will, of course, make you dizzy.

I wonder what expectations would go along with that? Obama didnt turn out to be the black messiah afterall, a bit much to hope that people will wise up and start voting in the way that best represents their economic interest instead of this or that accident of birth.

you do have a point and in an optimal future we should be like that, but we aren't in an optimal future now. also, i will personally always vote for ideas, rather than a person, but regardless of whether he's doing anything for the black community or not, he is a symbol and that's how it counts. a black person was actually elected as president because people were ok with that, and a black person actually has visibility as a respectable important figure. same should happen with other minorities (bisexual, women, whatever). visibility does matter. for ex it is the most important thing when it comes to gay rights. even obama said that his views on gay rights changed as he progressively became acquainted with lgbt people. most stuff is just showing up for school, you know?

I couldnt disagree more with your entire post.

Although I hear this a lot, people want to live in a future in which identity politics dont count, although they think entrenchment and retrenchment of the same identity politics is the way to get there. Its like expecting a little tree that's been made into a club to put forth leaves and blossom. As equally daft as marxist ideas about a dictatorship resulting in the withering away of the state or capitalist ones about deregulation resulting in the disappearence of corporatism or markets as a rigged game.

It takes a pretty ideological out look to believe this sort of BS and not recognise it for what it is.

Consider moving to Iran, Saudi Arabia, Sudan or Uganda. You could throw a dart at the ballot and find a candidate to feel good about!
