For all that we have done, as a civilization, as individuals, the universe is not stable, and nor is any single thing within it. Stars consume themselves, the universe itself rushes apart, and we ourselves are composed of matter in constant flux. Colonies of cells in temporary alliance, replicating and decaying and housed within, an incandescent cloud of electrical impulses. This is reality, this is self knowledge, and the perception of it will, of course, make you dizzy.

Yep, this is stupid. I'm not sure there's much else to comment beyond that.

Next think they will be giving the death penalty for cutting in line.

The ignorant masses seem to love how the government waste their tax dollars on "law and order" trifles. The district attorney offices offen charge things like this as "commercial burglary". If he was here in California he could have gotten 25 to life*

*(if he had one prior violent/serious felony and another subsequent felony involving filed as a "strike")

So the White House directly set up the Collier County police to arresting this guy?

So the taxpayer gets to pay for his lawyer, the trial, and his room and board all for the cost of a $1.00 soda which actually costs under a dime," said one poster.
    -From the article

    Sounds like it's worth it...

The whole situation is stupid... It's a freaking one dollar soda, let it go... I mean I can understand kicking him out of/banning him from the restaurant, but felony charges? Seriously?

I'd be amazed if it went that far.

I live in Florida and I evicted someone a couple years and on their way out they decided to steal a refrigerator. The owner filed charges but after much pomp and circumstance, the judge decided to drop the case all together as the woman was living out of her car and he felt she couldn't possibly pay it back.

If this guy, who the article says is unemployed, actually gets charged and convicted for stealing a $1's worth of stuff, I will be shocked and amazed.

its about the american politics allowing corporations to take over the prison system and these corporations wanting to fill as many prisons as possible to make money.

This behavior by the Collier County PD does not surprise me at all. I used to live in Naples and I was once arrested for driving with an expired tag (expired by one week).
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."
