Default How do you protect children against people like the Norway Nazi?

Well, any suggestions? The guy says he's got no remorse and would do it again, believes that the only way to save or protect an abstraction "Norway" he had to kill 77 actual Norweigans, simultaneously aiming to kill two generations, targetting the very idea of liberality in criminal justice because elsewhere "surrender or no surrender" he'd have been shot by a government sniper or on death row already.

Do you mean what kind of prison sentence should this guy get? Or are you wondering how society can prevent future occurrences? If you're talking about the latter, at some point we have to just accept the fact that sometimes evil people will do evil things and it can't be stopped, at least not without moving toward a 1984-ish society.

The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

Well the only protection I can think of is concealed carry here in the US.

Otherwise like Lateralus said, "shit happens and you might be SOL".

Events like this are so ridiculously rare that they really aren't worth worrying about. You could put your kid in full body armor and inject them with a GPS tracker, but you will get far greater returns by simply having a good relationship with your kids, getting to know their friends, and making sure they wear a seat belt.

More people die of the flu every year(some cases of Spanish flu killed within a day); assume the government can offer only a certain amount of safety, a totalitarian form of government would offer the most protection from this sort of action (and who wants to live like that), or utopianism (who’s able to live like that).

You catch him after he bombs downtown. Seriously, I have read that the police response was very slow and inadequate. Obviously needed resources were lacking (like a working helicopter). An investigation is underway to identify what needs to be fixed in the emergency response system. No one will ever be perfectly safe, but we can minimize the damage through preparation and forethought.

I assume Lark means ‘how does one protect children against violence’.

One way is to enact legislation against guns and bomb-making materials, because you can't kill so many otherwise.

Another way is to create a much less porous social safety net that is capable of seeing people such as the shooter and ameliorating their social circumstances so as to avoid the type of psychological damage and distortion that leads to violence.
Such a safety net does not yet exist in any country in the world, but is not impossible.
