Your "freedom to discriminate" does not overrule the basic rights of other people, which get violated if appropriate action is not taken by the state. Would you also be okay with people being banned from beauty pageants because of their race?

They're giving her a CHANCE, big deal. No one said she'd win. And they made their decision, one way or the other. How can you be certain someone like Donald Trump, a staunch, successful businessman didn't have the good of the company in mind? We can merely speculate and judge at a distance.

Then they should stop calling it "Miss Universe" ... as in this case, it's not open to all misses in the Universe. It's not called, "Miss Universe Except For <Various Exclusions>".

Again, then it should be called "Miss Black Universe" or "Miss White Universe," and people can bitch about it on those grounds.

technically, if he's going to call it "Miss Universe," then he should be open to unmarried female-gendered sentient beings from any place in the entire cosmos.

Perhaps, if the society they live in allows them such freedom.

We can't say if a beauty pageant who allow transgenders would be a better success in buisness that a beauty pageant who don't if you don't allow concurence. And theses anti-discrimination laws forbid it.

NBC Universal might lose a lot of viewers based on the outcry alone, so that could very well have sparked the decision. Perhaps it wasn't worth the risk to the business, if the consumers [& politicians who attempt to represent them, etc] seemed pissed enough.

"Miss universe" includes "miss". So if they consider that someone is not a miss, it's their freedom of thought, and you have no right to impose them your conceptions about what a woman is.
