Michael Rogers, a Republican representing Michigan’s 8th district.

According to a press release issued last week, the bill already has over a 100 congressional co-sponsors. Yet the bill is only now beginning to appear on the public radar.

Under CISPA, the feds, and other corporate interests, could require ISPs and others to provide information on Internet users without restriction. No warrant, no probable cause, would be necessary, as long as the action is taken in the name of “cyber security.”

According to the Electronic Frontier Foundation the bill contains “sweeping language [that] would give companies and the government new powers to monitor and censor communications for copyright infringement. It could also be a powerful weapon to use against whistleblower websites like WikiLeaks.”

From what little I read, this one seems like the PATRIOT act, internet edition. Instead of yelling "terrorism" they yell "internet security" and the laws weaken? That's what little I gathered from that.

How many of these kinds of bills will they come up with? How long can we fight it?

Unless we can get these idiots out of office, the only course of action I can see in the long run is to let one of these pass, and let them see the result of their stupidity. I really don't want to see that happen though. I'm sure they think they are doing the right thing, but this is getting ridiculous. I mean there has to be a reason that they are pushing this stuff, who on earth is it that keeps telling lawmakers that people actually want this?

Eventually, I think something big is going to come from these fights, be it a major change in the government, or a major blow dealt to the internet...

:sigh: Only time will tell, I guess.

Each time a bill surfaces... the only thing most of us can do is spread it like wildfire before they even think about passing it.

Until the industries decide to stop funding them I suppose. From what I am reading online about it right now, in its current form, it is a bit too broad based.

    Yeah, I've noticed that trend.

None that I know of, except self-created one on sites like change.org.
