Default Girl scouts are a radical leftist organization

Rep. Bob Morris, R-Fort Wayne, thinks Girl Scouts are "a 'radicalized organization' that supports abortion and promotes the homosexual lifestyle."

A Fort Wayne lawmaker has refused to sign on to a resolution celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts, calling the group a "radicalized organization" that supports abortion and promotes the homosexual lifestyle.

Rep. Bob Morris, R-Fort Wayne, sent a letter to his fellow House Republicans on Saturday explaining why he would be the only member in the House not to endorse the nonbinding resolution.

He said he did some web-based research and found allegations that the Girl Scouts are a tactical arm of Planned Parenthood, allows transgender females to join and encourages sex.

Morris also said the fact that First Lady Michelle Obama is honorary president "should give each of us reason to pause before our individual and collective endorsement of the organization."
    Here's his original letter.

Wow... how ridiculous. I mean, as an organization you could definitely say that Girl Scouts promotes awareness and acceptance about issues of diversity and sexuality, but I would never say that the ENTIRE organization as a whole embodies and encourages leftist ideas.

I was a girl scout for 13 years and finished out with the gold award. My mother was a troop co-leader and she's one of those right-wingers who believes anything on Fox news... I think that the issues that come up within Girl Scouting definitely depend on the locations and ideas of the individual troop members, not something that is mandated for the whole of the organization.

It's obvious that girl scouts catchphrase, "Where Girls Grow Strong" could make people think that it's an insane leftist women's rights organization, but I don't think that within the context anyone would really think of it that way.

More evidence that the Republican party is well beyond saving.
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

    Wait, you were joking, right?

Seriously though, I don't think any of what you said matters to him. When people asked this guy for proof that the GSA supports abortion, he said "If you're not against it, you're for it."

It's bringing politics into something that doesn't really need to have politics in there. It is like bringing in the Boy Scouts and saying that the group as a whole is anti-homosexual.

I'll be buying my Girl Scout Cookies anyways, since they'll be out in a few days.

I'm not joking about the catchphrase... it's on a lot of my t-shirts...

But yeah... I don't think the argument has much credibility.... just an extension of this "war on women"

Wait a moment, I think things are a bit different between the GSA and the BSA.

Note that the BSA are vocally opposed to homosexuals:

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA), one of the largest private youth organizations in the United States, has policies which prohibit atheists and agnostics from membership in its Scouting program, and prohibit "avowed" homosexual people from leadership roles in its Scouting program as directly violating its fundamental principles and tenets. BSA has denied or revoked membership status or leadership positions of youths and adults for violation of these foundational principles.
The BSA contends that these policies are essential in its mission to instill in young people the values of the Scout Oath and Law
In this case, while perhaps some individuals within BSA are open to homosexuals and atheists/agnostics as equally valid members/leaders, the national policy and expressed tenets are NOT supportive. BSA has made the anti-homosexual scree part of their stance by discriminating against them.

Meanwhile, in comparison, GSA recently went on record as supporting the inclusion of transgirls within their troops, for which some of the more conservative elements of GSA reacted vocally.

Interesting..., in my perspective, the BSA looks more radical to me.
