Heroes, Ideology and Lyndon Baines Johnson

In 1942, Lyndon Baines Johnson, sent a secret report to the President from Austalia.

In the report LBJ, later to become President, criticised us for having no heroes and no ideology.

Of course LBJ didn't know we pity countries that have need of heroes.

And LBJ didn't know that ideology is predigested thought, that ideology serves interests, and that ideology has a demonology.

And being a secret report to curry political favour, we had no opportunity to say that we are free of heroes and ideology.

We have no need of ideology because we remain true to history. We were founded by the English and Scottish Enlightenment and we pursue the greatest good for the greatest number using reason.

And we have no need of heroes because we gained our independence peacefully, and united a whole Continent and half of another, also peacefully.

Do you have a link to this secret report?
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

Even more interesting, dear Lateralus, LBJ was here to prepare a secret report for the President on a revolt by black American Soldiers against their white officers in Townsville, Queensland, Australia.

Yes, the black American soldiers took up arms and fired upon their white officers. Australian troops were called in but refused to fire on Americans black or white.

This black revolt was considered so incendiary that all mention of it in American newspapers was banned. And the secret report by LBJ was buried until just the other day.

    Why did they revolt?

    I can only guess.

And I guess the answer lies in their origins in black slavery in America. And finding themselves in a country that had been welcoming black Americans since the late nineteenth century, their treatment become intolerable so they took up arms against their white officers.

And all this happened in the middle of a war we were losing, and the President didn't want the revolt to spread to other black units, so it was kept as a war secret.

So I guess the point of this thread is to point out a reason just why Australia is better than USA? This seems the same as nearly all of your posts.

I'd rather not speculate. Taking up arms against a superior officer is a pretty severe offense.
