That is quite scary. I wonder if other countries which suffered dictatorship, rebellion, and civil war passed similar bills like too?

I agree more with @Lark analogy to the situation in Britain than to Nazi Germany. Britain is still a liberal democracy, but one where law enforcement has far more leeway in what they can do to that sounds almost incomprehensible to most Americans.

I think this was done because people were complaining a bunch about the killing of Anwar Al-Awlaki, who was a U.S. citizen but a targeted terrorist.

While this is true the UK is in an unprecidented experiment in reductions in police services, closing stations, sacking officers and there is some odd, for the conservative party, tendencies towards wishing to close prisons, or at least acknowledge their ineffectual nature, and this experiment will leave some areas without anything like the police resources that citizens in the US would take for granted.

Similarly the policing of the UK riots was amazingly different from policing of any similar explosion in the UK, dramatically different from US policing of even peaceable demonstrations made up of people who appeared able to absorb some real punishment without escalation to violence.

I think the UK police have powers which appear great in scope on paper but which are never exercised like that in practice, at least not since the dirty war in NI ended and with rare exceptions such as the death squad which killed the Brazilian guy wrongly identified as a potential suicide bomber.

    And this is suprising?
They've always wanted to get this kind of control, untill nothing of the constitution is applicable.
    The State always grows bigger.
