    Thanks OakySage.

Reifying led to the Shoah. For when we want to murdrer in large numbers, it is necessary first to reify the victims, so we won't feel guilt.

And we reify the victims by casting them as somatic types, that is, bodily types. This is called racism and is no longer socially acceptable, so the urge to reify our victims has moved from somatic types to psychological types.

So psychological typing is under the dark star of racism and the Shoah.

Reifiying also leads to nihilism and depression.

So rather than helping us understand ourselves and others and live happily in harmony, reification has the opposite effect of casting us into nihilism and depression and making us vulnerable and gullible and easily manipulated.

The military and business use psychological typing to atomise, and render powerless, their recruits and employees.

Psychological typing reduces us to narcissistic children - gullible children who can be easily manipulated.

And today we see the rise of another totalitarian ideology that divides us into types. We are now divided into muslims, dhimmi and infidels.

It's our choice to divide ourselves into types. I don't see it as a division so much as a natural circumstance. Christ. Two can play at that game.

Sure, we chose to divide ourselves into Aryans, Negoes, Slavs, Asians and Jews - leading to tears before bedtime.

Of course not. With the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 racism became infra dig. And the impulse to reify our fellow human beings found a home in psychological typing.

I understand Victor's caution, but he sees all of these dangers of typology as already definite and proven. I think type is just a tool (and I'm guessing, ICUP does too). It can be abused and taken too seriously, or... you can simply not do that, and make of it what you will.

I think it is dangerous to think of anything as just a tool that can be used at will and discarded at will. For we create our tools and our tools create us.

For instance, we created the tool of printing press and the printing press created the literate individual.

The literate individual can no more stop reading than stop breathing.

And so when we create types, types create us.
