I wonder if the guy of man versus food is immune to pepper spray by now?

Is it not CS gas that the cops use anyway?

But I don't know. Some police officers are trained in negotiation and such, so maybe someone like that could have convinced the students to clear out without the use of force. I doubt it though.
Pretty-much. I think the college holds the main responsibility for this situation.

CS gas is used but it is not in spray form. CS is a crystalline powder that is in the tear gas. OC is the spray form.

    CS Gas

    OC Spray

Both are awesome when applied to mucous membranes of unruly hippies.

Pepper spraying people sitting down it obviously overboard. You'd think all it would take is some handcuffs and brawn. M60's and Tomahawks when discretion dictates.

No, it is not. I watched the video and what was glaringly obvious is the first many minutes of footage that of course were not shown. Those are the minutes where the police would have been giving detailed instructions to the protesters to move, disband, cease and desist. OC spray is a compliance device, it is much kinder and gentler than taking hours to physically pull these malingerers apart risking broken fingers, breaks and bruises and damaged joints to both protesters and police. Had they tried that approach every time they get one arm loose from the next they just grab back on. And it is certainly gentler than rapping them on the elbows and wrists with batons or applying joint manipulation holds. OC was appropriately (I am not commenting on legality, only appropriate use of the force continuum) applied in this situation.
The point is, the video shows what the protesters want you to see to further their anti-establishment agenda. They knew what would be coming, they were instructed and refused to follow police instructions to leave the area. So, they were sprayed and dispersed. That is protocol. Now, if the police were enforcing an illegal mandate than the protesters have grounds to pursue damages through the legal system (no doubt they or their marxist backers will).

Not if you're a cop, not usually.
