Default Boredom as a social problem?

Well what do you think? Is boredom a social problem or is that just the most ridiculous thing you've ever heard? Bread and circuses where demanded by the populous in Rome and the state obliged, to what extent do you think there are parallels with the present day?

I don't see it as much of a problem, considering it's probably the strongest motivating force for humanity after the standard hierarchy of needs.

Boredom is the result of lack of motivation to find something stimulating to do with oneself.

Lots of interesting things to do, endless actually. I could live 1,000 lifetimes and never have explored all I want to explore in this wonderful world and universe. That just makes this life that much more precious.

I think "sense of entitlement" is a bigger problem, but perhaps related. Wanting something for nothing, expecting others to entertain and provide to you though you're contributing nothing...etc

What causes boredom though? Depression? Does the state have the right to force those with depression to have treatment?

If people are bored in the modern world, maybe it has to do with the lack of depth in our society rather than being unable to find something to do.

    Probably neither

I'm not sure what you mean by a "social" problem here...
