    Default Environmentalism and misanthropy

I've been interested to find that there's a lot of greens gravitating towards conservative parties, they seem to be less concerned about famine in African states than about animal extinction, so what I'd ask is do you think that generally conservative environmentalists are misanthropic?

while I support protecting the environment, I think the majority of environmentalists are misanthropes who view the human race as a parasite that should feel guilty for it's very existence.

People who fight for the protection of nature cannot be misanthropic. The human species is a part of nature as is the animal. So if you want to protect the nature, and that is what I think a truely "green" person would want, you cannot be misanthropic.

    This video came to mind.

I'm not aware of any movement of environmentalists to conservatism in the US. Environmentalists are trying to save the planet for the human race, which isn't misanthropic in theory. In practice you're being squeezed in the bike lane by little people in big cars.

Environmentalists are people stepping on the frontlines of a battle that will affect every human on earth. If these "misanthropes" dislike people so much, why would they risk themselves on such a crucial, yet thankless job?

No, I don't think they're misanthropes (mostly... probably some of them are), just misguided. I can see where they're coming from a little bit-- after all, human beings are just another species of mammal, so why should we be more important than pandas or tigers or whatever animal is going extinct? Also, the animals are going extinct because of us so...

But on the other hand, I find it impossible to care more about tigers than starving children in Africa or any other human suffering. Perhaps that's due to an evolutionarily-motivated tendency to value one's own kind over others, or maybe it's because human being are sentient, and thus aware of their suffering in ways animals are not.

I don't think concern for humans and tigers is mutually exclusive. To be truly environmentally conscious, in my mind, is to seek a balance where we can all coexist peacefully and healthfully.

In extreme environmentalism, I don't see misanthropy so much as a desire to reduce civilization back to a primitive state where people can no longer do great harm to nature. By "primitive," I mean like the aborigines. Technology will still exist but it will be of the simplest kind.

I don't think not wanting to donate money to Africa makes you a misanthrope. I couldn't speak to "green people" in general. They usually fall into the liberal side here.

I am misanthropic. Could be true.

But since politics is manmade, I hate politics as well.
