Why do believe that environmentalists are misanthropes? I find environmentalism to be the practical evolution of human existence (sustainable existence, mind you).

If anything, non-environmentalists are misanthropic to an alarming degree. The notion that more pollutants in the air and water we depend on might be a good thing is either misanthropy or ignorance.

That may well be, but it doesn't mean they are misanthropes.

Most organisms on this planet are parasites. When did parasitism gain a negative connotation? As a biologist, I cannot understand this mindset.

Environmentalism is seeking to prevent a massive calamity from befalling the human race, so I don't see it as misanthropic at all.

I can't speak for any particular person's to fund one policy over another, but I can understand putting combating climate change above foreign aid to starving people in Africa, because the first problem is far broader and the response digs much closer to the root of the problem. Aid for fighting starvation in Africa is not only more localized, it tends to be more like cure than prevention.
