Well, sophistication seems to be getting it all wrong these days; maybe there's something to be said for naivete.

    I don't think I'm overstating marm's position.

I think your position is still too broad for me.

    It's a beautiful thing.
The three branches of government our accountable to the people if they do not share power. Who is the government, business, and people accountable to when they don't share power?

That's a necessary correlation of the government getting bigger. Unless you just want the government to take over business.

No, I had it the way I wanted. Only someone with a very juvenile view of the world would see government, business, and "the people" (what exactly are government and business made up of, then?) as counterweights to one another.

Large corporations and government are made up of very wealthy, educated people. Perhaps I should have said "the unwashed masses" instead.

The reason why corporations and government have to also keep the unwashed masses in check is because there can be crime, ignorance, et al. Anarchy is generally a bad idea, because someone physically large but intellectually and emotionally stupid might take over. See: prison riots.

OH and if it's not obvious to you, the government is there to protect the masses from big business, just as business and the people can keep the government from getting out of control.

So now you know why all three should be balanced.

If you really believe that, then I think you're insane. Look at the past century and tell me that is the case.

Well there must be a lot of insane people then, Merc, since most people in 1st world countries agree. Give your pets food from China much?

I think your beliefs are far fetched as well. Have a day.

Insane or ignorant, yes. Most people either have no idea what goes on in the political world, and the ones who do follow politics often believe things that are totally ludicrous or distasteful.

This isn't a matter of belief. It's a matter of seeing what goes on in the world with open eyes.

THE ENTIRE FIRST WORLD IS INSANE AND ARROGANT...according to you. Sure you aren't the one who is insane and arrogant?

So yeah there should be no regulations on polluting our drinking water, or our air, or unethically selling people stuff that the business knows its clients can't actually afford creating illusory bubbles, and Chinese businesses should be able to sell people cooking oil out of the gutter?

    Sure thing, Merc, sure thing.
