I am against the practice, but only because I"m against welfare in the first place.

I am generally against welfare too, but accept that in the current system it is neccessary. I don't want to appear as some staunch defender of the program itself, because I am absolutely not.. but I am against this law. I find it highly ineffective.. and a way for government to siphon us for yet another completely ridiculous program. I don't think this law will tackle or aid in any kind of drug treatment, I don't think it will have any baring on what benefits are paid out.. but it will sure as hell guarantee them the funding to reimburse every single non-using welfare receipient. I understand WHY people feel that drug testing welfare would be a good thing.. but see it as lacking any critical thinking skills.

If they actually have enough money for this kind of a project it would be far more useful that they spend it on the amount of welfare. (to put it in short)

Yes, that is an accurate interpretation of what I said.

I've always thought welfare should be turned into a program where you can't buy extras.. Like a card that only works at grocery stores, banks, etc. WIC was extremely annoying, but in the end we got what we needed and it was enough. Annoying though it was, it only worked on very particular items.

In an ideal world we wouldn't need welfare, I am too against it. But with the way it is now, we have people who just want to sit on their ass all day and get food stamps so they dont have to get jobs. I think those people should be tested because if they were to get a job, they would be drug tested for the job. Plus it'd eliminate a lot of money going to people who only smoke pot (or other drugs) and do nothing with their lives. I don't care if you want to aspire to be nothing, just don't use my money to do so.

Tax dollars are wasted every single day.

In Florida, Solantic Clinics were signed up to do the drug-testing. The governor that signed the bill to test welfare recipients (and state employees) used to own Solantic. After some noise was made about a conflict of interest, the business was transferred to his wife, and then the last bit of news is it was sold (I think...to lazy to check).

    Wow...

You know... I think it would be a better idea to make welfare/workfare only accessible if/when tubes are tied, or the same kind of procedure for a man... whatever that is called. THen recipients can do all the drugs they want, because they'll eventually die off, crime will go down, tax dollars will finally start going towards something that MATTERS, and the debt crisis will be solved.

Seriously, I'd lay off that Fox News if I were you. Not only is it apparently dangerously addictive (I wouldn't know myself, only smelt the stench at a distance and made sure not to inhale) but it will kill off neurons, and consequently destroy your capacity for coherent rational thought, faster than the equivalent daily dose of crystal meth. I believe this has been clinically proven by studies which compare Fox News users to users of other brain-melting hard drugs.
