Hook me up a new revolution, because this one is a lie. We sat around laughing and watched the last one die. People need a good end of the world to wake them out of their madness. But mostly everyone histericle from police self rightiouse from authority, to histerical protesters whinning about everything. But look beyond all that. Fidn the truth and spread it. The only real evolution starts within yourself. Be the change and pass it along

They're not actually getting into anything important. They're basically simulating 'too many people' visiting a website. It's child's play.

They went after the FBI's website right after Megaupload got taken down, and the site was back up within an hour.

The best comparison I have heard for what Anonymous is doing... Is that this is the internet equivalent of tearing down a poster.
Zombies are an old DDOS tool. The so-called Smurf attack is even older and required that all one's hacker buddies get together and hit their buttons at the same time, but the attacking ip's can be traced. Nowadays computers are turned into zombies which attack anonymously. Anybody's computer can be turned into a zombie. Back when dialup was more common, hackers were forced to find high-bandwidth networks to remotely install their zombies on, university computers were favorite targets as they have low security and great internet connections. One university computer can do the job of a thousand dialup computers, and it is always online.

As far as we know, "Anonymous" could be just a couple guys living in their parents' basement. But they have thousands of computers at their beck and call. There are a variety of vectors for suckering computer users into installing their bots, usually spam advertising dating sites, or low-security porn sites.

I was just reading up on the Smurf attack at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smurf_attack, and while that's certainly pointing to something true it's not what I'm talking about. In that version, a server protects itself from a flood of ping requests by dos'ing the attacking computer. This is a more subtle form of attack, as the attacking computer did nothing but respond to a ping request from another computer (the real culprit). The victim receives the request from another computer, it then ICMP queries the server, but it does this querying too many times in a given time-frame and so is registered as a flood of ICMP.

What I am talking about is more brute than that: simply flood with millions of malformed packets.

Yes, but it is very illegal. So the FBI will take it seriously. But I really don't care as it doesn't affect me.

Have you guys heard about the Susan G. Komen vs Planned Parenthood brouhaha? The Komen website has been mysteriously blipping and vanishing and there is speculation that Anonymous is up to hijinx.

Anonymous will be blamed for everything now, just like Al Qaeda is blamed for most terrorist attacks.

This is very likely. And I doubt they'll thwart it if they don't take issue with it. Just pumps their rep.
