Africa is often exploited beyond imagination.

Whether this scene was intentional or not.....

sounds cool to me, it's not like the black servants were forced to do this, they probably agreed because they got a large sum of money and thought it would be funny
Edit: say, this gives me an idea (scurries off to blog)

Alright, let's use our wealth and privelege to re-enact racism and oppression.

For my wedding I'd like to re-enact a Nazi death camp. I'll pay desperate, unemployed Jews to pretend to go "take showers."

    That sounds very naive.

What makes you think they were all approached individually and offered a generous sum they were at liberty to accept or refuse? Isn't it more likely they work for a catering service and can be happy to get whatever wage they are payed because they have a family to feed and there aren't many options?

Also, why should they think celebrating that dark period in their country's history would be fun?

I went to a party this weekend. The only black people there were the waiters... And it wasn't even themed like the one above.

    What century is this again?

I wonder if they eschewed air-conditioning and indoor plumbing to make the experience even more authentic?

Why do people have fun at "Renaissance" festivals? Their method of celebration was highly inappropriate (assuming the all-black staff was a deliberate decision on their part), but there's nothing wrong with celebrating aspects of a historical period-otherwise you might as well write off most of everyone's ancestral history as something to be ashamed of.

It's a matter of degree. Oppression of Africans essentially defined this era. Makes it a little different from, say, reenactments of the first Thanksgiving.
